About the Opportunity
The GEO Group Australia Pty Ltd (GEO) is a leading provider of privately managed correctional and healthcare services in Victoria. We are committed to making a real and lasting difference in the lives of the people in our custody, their families, and the wider community.
We are looking for an experienced IT and Communications Manager to provide corporate-level leadership across information technology, cyber security, and digital enablement for a complex, multi-site organisation operating within a highly regulated environment.
Reporting to an Executive Director, this role provides strategic oversight of IT operations across multiple facilities, ensuring technology services are secure, reliable, compliant, and aligned with contractual and organisational objectives.
This is a rare opportunity to step into a senior corporate role where technology directly supports safety, service delivery, and organisational assurance. With a planned and supported transition period, the role offers continuity, stability, and the opportunity to shape the next phase of GEO’s IT capability.
Your Key Impact Areas
As the corporate IT & Communications Manager, you provide strategic direction, governance, and operational oversight of IT services delivered across GEO facilities. Your key impact areas include:
- Enterprise IT leadership – setting corporate IT strategy, standards, and priorities aligned with business objectives, contractual obligations, and risk appetite
- Oversight of facility IT operations – ensuring consistent, effective delivery of IT services across sites, including end-user computing, applications, infrastructure, and local support functions
- Cyber security and risk management – maintaining a strong security posture aligned with government, contractual, and ISO-aligned frameworks
- Vendor and managed service oversight – managing MSPs, SaaS providers, and technology partners to ensure value, performance, and compliance
- Governance, compliance, and assurance – owning corporate IT policies, standards, and controls, and supporting audits, investigations, and executive reporting
- People and capability leadership – leading and mentoring IT personnel, promoting sustainable workloads, and supporting capability uplift across the organisation
For more information on the role, please review the Position Description.
Is this You? Your Essential Skills for Success
We are looking for a senior IT professional with strong judgement, leadership capability, and enterprise perspective. You will ideally bring:
- Proven experience in an IT management or senior IT leadership role, preferably within complex, regulated, or multi-site environments.
- Strong understanding of enterprise IT environments, including Microsoft 365, identity and access management, infrastructure, end-user computing, and cyber security controls
- Demonstrated experience in governance, risk, and compliance, including policy development, audit support, and alignment with recognised security frameworks
- Experience overseeing vendors and managed service providers, including contract management, performance oversight, and escalation
- Well-developed stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with executives, operational leaders, and technical teams.
- A pragmatic and steady leadership style, capable of balancing operational demands with longer-term improvement and organisational continuity
- Satisfactory completion of a national criminal history check and the maintenance of security clearance
About the GEO Group Australia
We are the country's leading provider of outsourced correctional services, operating in NSW, QLD and VIC. Our goal is to deliver better corrections, and in doing so, create safer communities.
We deliver ‘better corrections’ in two ways: against our objective of being Australia’s best provider of correctional services, as well as our ability to make these services better over time through innovation and continual improvement.
We deliver ‘safer communities’ through our ability to successfully reintegrate the prisoners into the community, with corresponding reductions in their rate of re-offending. To reduce re-offending we apply the GEO Continuum of Care:
- We work not only in our correctional centres but continue our services out into the community to support our prisoners
- We work not only with our prisoners but also with those critical to their rehabilitation and reintegration such as families, social networks and other service providers
- We work not only during our prisoners’ sentences but also afterwards as they leave the correctional system and return fully to their communities
